Will Britney "Gimme More" at the VMAs?
Britney Spears will not be performing at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
"Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year's VMAs," Larry Rudolph, Spears's manager at Jive Records, said in a statement to the Associated Press. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."
According to the Los Angeles Times, Britney is, however, still expected to attend as a regular contender for "Piece of Me," which was nominated for three awards including video of the year. There was widespread hope among fans that Britney Spears would get back on stage and redeem herself for last year's performance, when she fell apart on stage during "Gimme More."
According to the Associated Press, MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said the network wasn't ruling out giving fans another dose of Britney at the VMAs. MTV later confirmed they were in talks to have her appear in some capacity; the pop princess is doing promos for the event.
The MTV VMAs will air live Sept. 7 from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles.
