Will the Dream Retire?
Has The Dream’s run come to an end?
Dream is well on his way to releasing his third album Love King and it may be his last. He told MTV this week, “I really would like it to be the last album.” He said in a “perfect world,” that’s how it would go down. This comes after several claims last year that Love King would be his last album.
His previous two albums, Love Hate in 2007 and Love vs. Money in 2008 were huge financial successes behind hit singles like "Falsetto," “Rockin’ That Thang” and “Walkin On the Moon.” What is unknown to many fans is that he was the mastermind behind Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” Since he started in the music business in 2001, he’s written several songs for popular artists much like Ne-Yo did pre-2006.
However, it seems his work for other performers has prevented him from focusing on his own career or his weight issues. He told MTV, “Doing those things for everyone else has prohibited me from being a certain individual or shedding 10 pounds when I wanted to.”
In any case, many artists “retirements” never seem to last. One of the most infamous cases was Jay-Z’s claim in 2003 that “The Black Album” would be his last. He later told Entertainment Weekly that “it was the worst retirement in history.”
Love King hits stores this spring.
