Former SNL star agrees to appear in joint-promotion spots for Old Spice, Bud Light.

As part of advertisers' promotional deals for Will Ferrell's new basketball comedy Semi-Pro, the former Saturday Night Live star is starring in commercials for both Old Spice and Bud Light. The practice of A-list stars having their images depicted on promotional materials for brands in order to promote their films is still rare, but according to Reuters, it is a practice on the rise. John Travolta and Angelina Jolie are two actors also reported to be willing to partake in this type of campaign.

Semi-Pro is the latest release in a trend of Will Ferrell sports comedies. The comedic actor has also starred in Kicking & Screaming, Talladega Nights, and Blades of Glory. He has been awarded many accolades, such as Spike TV Guys' Choice Award for "Funniest Mo-fo." Old spice will run a number of spots on networks with predominantly male audiences such as ESPN, Comedy Central, and MTV. Annheuser-Bush's Bud Light did its part by premiering one of its spots during the Super Bowl.

Ferrell asked that Old Spice donate his fee for appearing in the commercials to the Cancer for College charity, Reuters reports.

Semi-Pro is set for release date February 29, and the film co-stars Woody Harrelson, OutKast's Andre 3000, and Ferrell's former SNL colleague Tim Meadows.
