Will Michael Join His Brothers for a Jacksons Reunion?

BMI has announced that the Jacksons will be presented with the "Icon" award at the Urban Awards on September 4.

With the Spice Girls and New Kids on the Block leading the way, could there be an even huger musical group reunion on the horizon? BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) announced today that the Jackson Five (or the Jacksons, as the group was later renamed) would be the recipient of an "Icon" award at the Urban Awards in Beverly Hills on September 4. The eighth annual ceremony will celebrate BMI's most popular R&B and hip-hop songs of the year, but will also recognize the origins of today's music. The Jacksons will be honored for their "indelible influence on generations of music makers," according to the BBC. The award comes 11 years after the brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Fans will be disappointed to learn that, while the Jacksons will be present, they will not actually perform. Reuters reported that other BMI artists would instead be selected to cover several of the group's hits. BMI also has yet to confirm whether there will be a complete reunion. According to the Associated Press, all of the brothers have accepted the invitation except for Michael, the most famous of the group. Whether or not Michael appears with his siblings at the Wilshire Theatre, though, by the end of the night, the family will have joined the ranks of such musical stars as James Brown, Isaac Hayes, and the Bee Gees, all of whom the BBC lists as previous Icon honorees.
