Actor Will Smith, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, and his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, have become minority owners of the NBA basketball team, the Philadelphia 76ers. The team, which is under new ownership, made the announcement today at a press conference.

According to SB Nation Philadelphia, Smith went to Overbrook High School, growing up in the Wynnefield section of West Philadelphia.

Smith, who is currently working on a third Men in Black film for next year, joins rapper Jay-Z as another media mogul who is a minority owner of a basketball team. Jay-Z owns a small part of the New Jersey Nets, who will soon become the Brookyln Nets. Usher is a minority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Nelly has a small slice of the Charlotte Bobcats.

NBC Sports reports that Smith is part of the new ownership, which also promised to cut ticket prices. However, with the first two weeks of the season canceled thanks to the NBA lock out, it looks like it will be a long time before fans can take advantage of the lower prices.

While the 76ers’ players might be locked out, maybe the new owners can get Smith to play instead, since this scene from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air proves that he can.
