William Shatner Gets Pilot from CBS

The first Twitter sensation to be turned into a TV pilot.

The legendary William Shatner is getting a TV pilot for the Twitter phenomenon that is "Shit My Dad Says." According to the Hollywood Reporter, Shatner has been cast in the TV pilot of the same name.

The Twitter account, which has enlisted more than 1.16 million followers, will have Shatner play the crazy old man. The pilot, which is executive produced by Will and Grace producers David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, now has the green light from CBS after Shatner was confirmed.

Patrick Schumacker and the Twitter account holder, Justin Halpern, are writing the script. The title is expected to change if the show is chosen to go to series. Halpern conceived the Twitter account when he moved back with his parents in San Diego, and decided that the world should know the sh*t his dad says every day.

Shatner was considered early for the role because of his comedic roles and the spoken word performances for which he has become famous. Last year, he did a series of spoken word performances from excerpts of Sarah Palin's book on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.
