Winehouse to Play at Concert for Mandela
Amy Winehouse has been added to the list of people set to perform at a concert for Nelson Mandela in late June, BBC News reports.
The concert, which celebrates Mandela's 90th birthday, will take place in London. Stars expected to perform include Queen and Leona Lewis. The concert will raise money for Mandela's 46664 Aids charity.
Despite a performance Friday in Portugal's Rock in Rio Lisboa festival - in which the singer showed up more than 30 minutes late - director of 46664 Aids, Tim Massey, seems glad to have Winehouse on board.
"We are delighted Amy will be appearing at Hyde Park," he praised.
Apart from showing up late to Friday's performance - which only lasted 55 minutes - Winehouse also revealed a weak singing voice, which she apologized for, citing hoarseness in her throat as the problem.
Before Friday, the last time Winehouse had played a full set was in November of 2007, right before the rest of her tour was canceled. She has also made small appearances at the Grammy Awards as well as at a Paris Fashion Week event in March.
Following her gig at Mandela's birthday bash, the 24-year-old singer will be performing at the Glastonbury and Bestival music festivals later this summer.
