Wiz Khalifa became a breakout star with his major label debut Rolling Papers and the single “Black and Yellow,” but he is not using success as an excuse to start slacking. Instead, he is busier than ever, working on new material and making an appearance on a Chevy Woods’ new mixtape, Cookout
In a discussion with MTV the Pittsburgh MC stated that he was in the early stages of work on a new album, saying he was working to “get a feel for where I’m going with it.” While this is far from a definitive statement on when the still untitled album will come out, fans won’t have to wait long to hear more from Khalifa. He is said to be on over half of the tracks on Cookout, which will be released sometime in September.
2011 has been a monumental year for Khalifa, who was recently received nine nominations in the BET Hip Hop Awards, including “Rookie of the Year” and “CD of the Year.” Rolling Papers has also been RIAA-certified Gold. The latest single off the album, “No Sleep,” is also rapidly approaching Platinum status, and has been a huge hit on the radio and Youtube.
