‘Wolverine’ Sequel in the Making

‘Total Recall’ writer Mark Bomback reboot original script

Everyone’s favorite feral mutant is returning to the big screen for a sequel, titled The Wolverine.

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has hired screenwriter Mark Bomback to reboot Christopher McQuarrie’s original script. Bomback’s earlier works include Bryan singer’s Jack the Giant Killer, Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake, and more recently, Live Free or Die Hard and Unstoppable.

Hugh Jackman is all set to reprise the leading role, and this time, he will reunite with his Kate and Leopold director, James Mangold. This will be the Australian actor’s sixth time playing Wolverine. The film is a sequel to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine and is inspired by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont's 1982 comic miniseries.

Coming Soon reports that the film will focus heavily on Wolverine’s time in Japan. Suffering from amnesia and searching for answers about his past in the Japanese criminal underworld, Logan begins a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since our hero won't take "no" for an answer, it puts him into battle against her sword-wielding family and The Silver Samurai.

The entire cast will be comprised of Japanese and Japanese-American actors, except for Jackman and the actor, not yet set, who'll play a newly expanded character named Viper, the Caucasian secretary for Japan's Minister of Justice.

Jackman is producing with John Palermo and Lauren Shuler Donner. Production is expected to start next year after Jackman wraps Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables" for Universal and will take place in Tokyo and Vancouver.

Although no dates have been confirmed, rumor has it that The Wolverine will hopefully begin filming in early 2012.
