Woman Crushed by Camel

A woman who was passionate about animals was crushed to death when a camel sat on her. A local television crew was filming Cathy Ake and the 4-year-old animal for a story on her exotic animal farm. Mini-Akers, a fifteen-acre farm, was owned by Ake and her husband, Donnie.

Mr. Ake believes that Polo the Camel was agitated because it is mating season, and that is the reason that the 1,800 lb. animal kicked and then sat on Cathy Ake, according to The News Herald of Panama City. The couple had just recently purchased Polo at an auction three weeks ago. His new home was a 50 ft. by 80 ft. pen.

Though 9-1-1 was dialed immediately, by the time a deputy and paramedics were able to prompt Polo to move, it was too late for the woman. Her husband believes that his wife either suffocated or was crushed to death by the weight of the beast. Polo will be sent to a new home.
