Woman Saved From Train Collision
Just after midnight on Tuesday night, Sgt. Marcus O'Shields spotted a car on the Norfolk Southern tracks along highway 80 in Greer, South Carolina. The driver in the car, Ms. Devall, was on her cell phone asking for directions to a friend's house. The police officer is seen on his dashboard camera, urging the woman to leave her car. Less than a minute later, the passenger train plowed into it. The officer told local news station WYFF, the video, "...tells the whole story. It's pretty graphic, and we don't see the rest of it, with the car catching on fire on down the track. It gets your nerves going pretty good."
Police said that the car was dragged by the train nearly a half-mile before both the car and engine of the train burst into flames. None of the 180 passengers on the train were seriously injured, and after Amtrak officials brought in a new front engine, the train was allowed to continue to its final destination of New York at around 6 a.m.
