Congratulations, Tiger Woods! You are the first athlete to become a billionaire, reports the Los Angeles Times. Between all of his on the field prize winnings and off the field endorsements with the likes of Nike and Gatorade, Forbes magazine estimates that Woods has eclipsed the billion-dollar mark.
According to United Press International, Woods officially became a billionaire last Sunday when he earned "the $10 million bonus at last week's PGA Tour Championship at Atlanta."
The Canadian Press states that Woods, 33, was estimated to have $895 million at the start of 2009. NBA Hall-of-Famer Michael Jordan is the world's second richest athlete with $800 million and retired Formula One driver Michael Schumacher is ranked third with $700 million.
