Work on "High School Musical 4" Is Already Underway
High School Musical 3 is expected to be released in theaters in the fall. It will be the first and possibly only film in the series that will start in theaters instead of on the TV screen. According to Reuters, the Disney Channel is already working on the fourth installment.
Rich Ross, the Disney Channel Worldwide president, revealed on Tuesday that work had begun. He said, "We are writing High School Musical 4."
The status of where High School Musical 4 will premiere most likely depends on whether or not some key actors will return. Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and Zac Efron are not committed to doing another installment. Ross said, "Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not. Will we have some of them? I hope so."
Characters introduced in the 3rd movie will probably become key to the story line of the fourth. Ross is always interested in bringing new ideas to the story. He said, "We have learned that just putting a number next to a title is a very old idea. We have to have a new story."
