Our Idiot Brother , directed by Jesse Peretz, is about a man called Ned (Paul Rudd) who is what some people describe as a free spirit, but most would describe him as an idiot. After spending a stint in prison for dealing drugs to a uniformed policeman, Ned imposes himself on his three ambitious and motivated sisters. Through his free-spirited and positive take on life, he is able to introduce his sisters to things other than blind career motivation.
The main role of Ned is played by Paul Rudd, who you may recognize from his part in the last season of Friends, as well as Role Models, and various other comedies. Paul has showed himself to be an excellent comical actor and has earned his roles in many successful comedy films. On top of being a very funny actor, he is also able to play more serious roles when the occasion calls for it, and because of that, he is definitely deserving of the lead role in this new comedy.
Another star of this film is Zooey Deschanel, who has starred in some of my favorite films including The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and my absolute favorite, 500 Days of Summer. Zooey is a brilliant actress and a personal favorite of mine. With her 'girl next-door' look and her off-beat comical style, Zooey is a must-have for any directer when casting for a comedy.
A personal highlight of mine is the small part that is played by none other than Steve Coogan. This man is an absolute comical genius with his legendary role as Alan Partridge. Steve is always a solid bet to have in any comedy, as he is pure comedy himself. I am sure there will be some Steve Coogan moments in this film, which will have me in tears, he never fails to deliver.
Our Idiot Brother looks to be a wildly entertaining comedy with a main character who, in some ways (mainly appearance) has me thinking of The Dude from The Big Lebowski.
Our Idiot Brother is released in cinemas everywhere August 26. So it's the weekend, and if you have nothing to do, why not get yourself down the cinema for a good old laugh?
