WWND? - What Would the Networks Do?
Networks CBS and NBC have rejected the United Church of Christ advertisement of "extravagant welcome" to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation. The 30-second commercial shows two bouncers standing outside of a church, choosing who can and cannot enter. The group of people turned away includes two men holding hands. At the bottom of the ad appears the text "Jesus didn't turn people away. Neither do we."
"It was against our policy of accepting advocacy advertising," said a CBS spokesperson.
Similarly, an NBC spokesperson said, "It went against our long-standing policy of not accepting ads that deal with issues public controversy."
The United Church of Christ website www.stillspeaking.org reports that other networks, including ABC Family and Fox, have accepted the commercial for rotation.
The ad is also viewable on the website.
