Yahoo Buzz Index proves we're not all shallow

The newest searches for this week's Buzz Index proves burger recipes and international sports hold a dearer place in our hearts than the latest celebrity gossip.

Maybe America really is getting less superficial.

In the Yahoo Buzz Index for this week, the No. 1 searched woman was not Britney Spears, or Angelina Jolie - but primetime newscaster Connie Chung.

The most searched of all was the World Cup 2006, a refreshing reminder that not everybody is more absorbed in the status of Britney's nanny or the real meaning of Jennifer Aniston's ring.

The late Richard Stahl, the popular female newscaster and FIFA are all safely above the routine celebrity spotlight at No. 2, 3 and 4 - although Angelina Jolie and Paris Hilton have still managed to sneak in at No. 5 and 6, just above the reality show "Big Brother" and WWE.

Perhaps WWE is the final plateau of "depth" for the internet-using public, because after that, the searches spiral into a sea of Shakira and Superman.

On a timely note, the recently deceased Stahl, as well as "Laverne and Shirley," the show on which Stahl made many guest appearances, have all broken out at an enormous rate to lead the top of the searches. Just following Katharine McPhee's announcement of her battle with bulimia, emerges a "breakout" level search on McPhee's boyfriend, Nick Cokas, and for the easily pleased summer griller, burger recipes have also found their way into the Yahoo Buzz at an alarming rate.

What is happening? Are celebrities just becoming more boring, or are burgers just getting more delicious?
