On the Yellow Brick Road Again
First Wonderland was brought back, and now it seems it’s Oz’s turn. Warner Bros Studios is looking into several projects to reinvent The Wizard of Oz. Universal and Disney are reported to be as well.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Warner Bros’ has two Oz projects in the works. One is a redo entitled Oz under their New Line label. The script for this one will be by Darren Lemke, a writer for Shrek Forever After.
The second Oz project will take a darker route: it will be about Dorothy’s granddaughter going to Oz. It is being scripted by A History of Violence screenwriter Josh Olson and will be produced by Thunder Road Pictures with producer Basil Iwanyk. There is also the possibility of Todd MacFarlane, creator of Spawn, also producing, but this has not yet been confirmed.
As of now, both projects are in the idea stage, but it has been reported that many representatives and top directors have been briefed on the projects. We will just have to see where this yellow brick road leads us.
