You Tube Launches New Channel for Citizen Journalists
You Tube launched site where news can obtain video from citizen journalists, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
You Tube officials launched You Tube Direct, where television and online news editors can obtain video and request video shots from the citizen journalists.
The news companies can announce the need for a certain video or the person who shot a video can post it on You Tube and make it easier for editors to find what they need.
News organizations testing the new You Tube service are NPR, Huffington Post, Politico, San Francisco Chronicle and some Boston television stations.
On Monday the Spanish television network Univision said it would supply the You Tube site with Spanish-language television shows from its three networks.
This will be the first time the network makes itself available through the internet outside its own properties.
You Tube Direct will provide a way for news organizations to easily verify content from home-made films uploaded to the internet.
