YouTube pulls the plug on Pirated Versions of 'Sicko'
People hoping to see Michael Moore's "Sicko" before it comes out in theaters were out of luck Monday after YouTube pulled links to pirated versions of the documentary that surfaced on the website over the weekend.
The video-sharing site cited a copyright claim by Lionsgate, the company distributing the film with Weinstein Co. At least two users posted a 124-minute version of the film on YouTube, able to be watched in 14 video clips.
"Sicko" is Moore's criticism of the US medical and insurance industries, detailing the struggles of ordinary Americans to navigate the heath care bureaucracy, whether they are with or without insurance. Moore compares America's system to those of Canada, France, and the UK, which have government insurance programs. Moore portrays the latter as superior to the American model, though critics contend that he presents an overly rosy picture of their nationalized healthcare systems.
