Zac Efron's "Footloose" Will Be Here in No Time
After this weekend's success of High School Musical 3, Paramount seems to have found the country's next big movie star.
That man is Zac Efron, whose remake of Footloose is now on the fast track to production, according to Variety. They are hoping to get Efron and director Kenny Ortega working by the spring. But that timetable seems to largely depend on the speed at which Peter Sollett (director of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) is able to rewrite Jon Hartmere's script.
On board as producers are musical movie production veterans Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who seem to come at a rather high price.
Footloose, which originally starred Kevin Bacon in the role that will be played by Efron, is targeted towards the high-teen demographic. Which seems to be smart, considering the age of the High School Musical fans.
But there's good news for those who didn't like the original film. The new version of Footloose will be an updated version - meaning that it won't be the exact same. It will be similar, but not the same thing.
Stay tuned for more information on the Footloose remake.
