Zachary Quinto: 'Star Trek 2' About Two Years Away
In a telephone interview with Wired, Zachary Quinto stated that his cameo appearance in the new Star Trek game, Star Trek Online, will be his last public work with the Trek universe for two years.
This set off a mild panic amongst Trekkies as the eager fans began speculating that the actor was stating that he would not be working on anything Star Trek-related for that amount of time. This would either severely cut into production time of the sequel or, even worse, indicate that the film would not start filming until then!
Via his Twitter account and blog, Quinto alleviated fans' fears, however:
i have been inundated with questions and confusion about a comment i made during an interview with wired - about the new atari star trek online game - in which i said i am stepping away from trek for the next two years. obviously i will be a part of any upcoming films... reprising my role as spock. what i meant was that in the meantime i won't be making any public appearances related to the franchise - or doing any more auxiliary projects pertaining to the trek universe. i will be focusing my efforts on other projects and preparing to shoot the next film - which will be released in june of 2012... two years from now. hence the no trek for two years remark. worry not trekkers. it was a misunderstanding of context. i am not spock. but i am spock. all at the same time.

Fear not, fellow Trekkies. I, too, am relieved!
Star Trek Online is a new MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, for the uninitiated) from publishers Atari and developers Cryptic Studios. If you are unfamiliar with the term, think of it as being sort of be like World of Warcraft, only with a Star Trek setting. (You all know WoW don't you?).
Quinto will be making a guest appearance as not Spock, but rather the voice of a holographic doctor. The game will be released on February 2, giving fans plenty of time to explore strange new worlds and civilizations until the movie comes out. Live long and prosper! Two years isn't that long!
