New Girl star Zooey Deschanel admits to being bullied at school in the new issue of Allure magazine. The 32-year-old actress, who received a Golden Globe nomination for New Girl, talked about how other girls were rude to her and that it continued even after going to college.

Us Weekly reports that Deschanel told the magazine that “Girls spit in my face...People were so mean to me. I'd cry every day."

She believed that once she went to college, things would change, but the bullying continued. She said that the reason she went to Northwestern was so that she could get the “traditional college experience...Then I was like, 'Oh, but none of these people understand what's cool about me. My specialness is not appreciated in this place.'”

Deschanel admits that she continues to try to avoid reading bad gossip about herself, even after finding success in films like Elf and (500) Days of Summer. "I can't go on Gawker. I actually think the writing is really funny, but there is a chance that somebody is undercutting me,” she told Allure, according to The UK Press Association.

Deschanel is currently divorcing her husband of two years, Death Cab For Cutie singer Benjamin Gibbard and told Allure what she likes to do to raise her spirits after the split. “I'd probably just go get out of my house. If I'm sad, I listen to happy music,” she said.

Finally, she also spoke about the pressure to be skinny in Hollywood. She admits that she is not a “big girl” herself, but adds, “I'm a very small person but I'm a healthy weight. That might be a little weird for Hollywood."
