Zooey Deschanel's adorable, awkward 'New Girl' to fall for adorable, awkward Justin Long

Fox's upcoming lovable-single-girl-trying-to-navigate-dating comedy, The New Girl, has been building buzz all summer thanks to its star, hipster princess Zooey Deschanel.

Deschanel has made a career of being a heavily banged, quirky indie darling, thanks to her breakout role in 500 Days of Summer and super successful music duo She & Him.

Fox hopes to use her niche fan base to reach a new demographic, and they're bringing Justin Long on board to help.

According to Deadline, the Accepted comedian is looking to shed that "Drew Barrymore's ex" image by signing on for a recurring role opposite Deschanel in the fall sitcom.

Long will first appear in the season's sixth episode as Paul, a music teacher to Deschanel's Jess.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Long is signed on for an additional two episodes, so the pairing may not be as much of a match made in adorkable heaven as it seems.

The New Girl chronicles Jess' adventures in dating after a long-term boyfriend dumps her and she subsequently decides to move in with three dudes she met via Craigslist.

The New Girl premieres September 20.
