The search to make a video experience as realistic as possible continues, with U2's new 3D film of a concert the band played in South America during their "Vertigo" tour. U2 3D "seeks to recreate the atmosphere of a gig and take fans on a thrilling visual ride," says Mike Collett-White of Reuters.
Through a combination of various film angles, the creators of U2 3D attempt to lead a revolution in the industry. Executive producer Sandy Climan told a news conference of the positives of 3D viewing. "I think when you have the choice of 3D and 2D, you will choose 3D overwhelmingly. You ain't seen nothing yet."
The film will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, along with several other music-relatied pictures, including Control, about the lead singer of Joy Division, Ian Curtis. U2 3D is expected to be officially released internationally in 1,000 theaters equipped with digital projection systems.
