Cartoonist Charles Addams's creation will creep Broadway stages.
Edward Olivier
The Addams Family, the most grotesque family in the world, will be adapted for a musical.
The producers announced that the new show is scheduled for the 2009-10 Broadway season. The libretto will be written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, writers of the 2006 Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys.
The eccentric family began its success through the drawings of cartoonist Charles Addams in The New Yorker magazine by 1930.
The characters with a passion for the grotesque and macabre already inspired television shows, animations, video games and the popular 1990s films starring Raul Julia and Angelica Huston.
