Fugitive Music Manager Busted in Indonesia
Former 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys manager Lou Pearlman has been arrested (not for inflicting boy band on the world). E! Online reports that U.S. authorities caught up with Pearlman in Indonesia on Thursday, and carted him off to jail for his involvement in an alleged multi-million dollar scam. Pearlman was a fugitive from the law. CTV reports that his arrest at an Indonesian hotel was followed by his expulsion from the country. The former manager was then shipped to Guam, a U.S. territory, where he will appear in court. Pearlman will follow up that appearance with another one in Florida court, where he is facing one felony count of bank fraud.
Pearlman is at the center of several federal and state criminal probes and a number of lawsuits. The lawsuits accuse him of establishing a fake accounting firm which prepared false securities statements. Pearlman's activities cost over 1,800 investors around $317 million, with an additional $130 million scammed from banks.
When Pearlman's music career was at its peak, he oversaw the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, Jordan Knight, Aaron Carter, and O-Town. Several acts sued Pearlman, accusing the manager of financial misdeeds.
