Grey's Anatomy Actor Claims ABC "Fired the Wrong Guy"
Isaiah Washington, the actor who formerly played Dr. Burke on ABC's popular show "Grey's Anatomy," claims that the network "fired the wrong guy" following an incident involving a fellow cast member who Washington supposedly criticized for being homosexual.
The 43 year-old actor told the Houston Chronicle in a recent interview that it was cast member T.R. Knight, 34, who plays George on the show, who blew the incident out of proportion and that he should have been the one ABC let go.
Washington, who is considering filing a lawsuit to clear his name, said that Knight made a bigger deal of the incident than necessary in order to become more popular and get a larger salary.
The original incident occurred back in January backstage at the Golden Globe Awards where Washington apparently referred to Knight as a "faggot."
Gay rights groups, along with other "Grey's Anatomy" cast members came down hard on Washington, who said he began to seek therapy following the incident.
He also filmed a public-service announcement in which he said "words have power" to hurt or heal.
"I was not fired for making homophobic slurs. I did everything I said I would do. I wanted everyone to know I was remorseful," he said.
