According to Jim to Return to Prime Time

After the threat of being cancelled, the ABC sitcom "According to Jim" is returning for a seventh season.

ABC announced on Wednesday that it would allow the sitcom "According to Jim," starring James Belushi, to return for a seventh season on prime time.

The show was supposed to be canceled after it did not meet the programming schedule in May, but an ABC spokeswoman said that ABC has added 18 new episodes of the show for the upcoming season.

"According to Jim," set in Belushi's hometown Chicago, is a family sitcom that stars the younger brother of the deceased icon John Belushi as a middle class man with three kids and a wife.

Since its debut in the fall of 2001 the ratings for "According to Jim" have declined, averaging nearly 6.6 million viewers a week, making it the 105th most watched sitcom during prime time.

Although ABC has done well with several series in recent years including "Grey's Anatomy," "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost," the network has failed to build a successful comedy bloc and is facing a lack fresh sitcoms for the coming season.
