Sir Elton John is on World Idol
22-Dec-2003
Written by: Alix Liner

They all won in their own countries. They became idols, superstars, and pop stars. They thought the pressure of competition with other "wannabe" idols was over, but they were wrong!

Now idols from 11 different countries, including our own American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, must compete with each other for the title of World Idol. It sounds like a bit of pressure and, to add to the stress for these young stars, the producers have added Sir Elton John to the mix.

"We are thrilled that Sir Elton John will perform on World Idol," said Richard Holloway, the show's executive producer. "Sir Elton John is, without a doubt, one of the greatest international recording artists of all time and I am sure he is an idol and inspiration to many of those contestants participating in the show."

Not only is Sir Elton John going to perform on the two-part special, but he is going to perform just before the winner is announced. How much more could these idols withstand?

The two-part special will air on December 25, 2003 and January 1, 2004 on the Fox network.

The 11 contestants will appear in front of judges from all of the corresponding countries; however, Simon Cowell, the rude and usually straight-to-the-point judge has not commented, yet, on whether or not he will be judging.

American Idol, in this country and probably the other 10 countries, has reached a new level of reality television. Airing this special during the holidays will probably put the ratings through the roof for the Fox network, while most other stations are showing old movies and reruns.

World Idol will be a success for the network and the winner, who actually wins nothing except the title; however, it will not be a success in ending the fight against reality TV.
