Hannah Montana beats Kelly Clarkson
Well, it looks like America's first Idol is having trouble with selling albums. Kelly Clarkson, who is titled to be the #1 vote that America wanted as the perfect singer, is ruled out by teenage idol Hannah Montana. There were rumors that label boss Clive Davis wasn't so thrilled with Kelly's album "The December." It was also rumored that Clive Davis was so disappointed with the album that he did not want to even release it. There are questions circulating about the reasons why Clarkson's album is not doing well. One question that is "Did the negative press play a big role in the flop of her album?"
The answer to that is sketchy, but bad press does not necessarily flop album sales. Many celebrities have bad press, but that aspect never seems to bother the album. Kelly's album faced sore competition up against Hannah Montana 2: "Meet Miley Cyrus," a two-disc set from Cyrus. Cyrus, who is an actress/singer and also the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, portrays Miley Stewart, an average teenager that lives a secret life as a popular pop singer on the Disney Channel series titled "Hannah Montana."
The album is the first soundtrack to the hit show which entered stores in October 2006. It also debuted at #1, selling a whopping 281,000 plus copies in its first week. The album has become the eighth best-selling album of 2006 with nearly 2 million copies sold. With that being said, it's understood why Cyrus is the Queen over the victory, generating 33,000 more scans, claiming a second-straight chart topping debut for the franchise.
Clarkson, who isn't having much luck, was left in the dust, according to SoundScan, by Miley's double-disc release, which sold close to 325,600 units. Kelly has had better luck in the past with her 2005 "Breakaway" -- which opened at #3 with 250,400 scans. "Breakaway" was not as big a hit as her 2003 album "Thankful," which debuted at #1 with 297,400 sold. The question now is Will Clarkson ever sell great like she did before? Well of course we all have hopes, and, just think, if she didn't it would be like she let America down, especially the viewers who voted for her.
