Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker was robbed in his $4.1 million residence in Chicago on Monday evening.
A source close to the Walker family said the former Mt. Carmel High School basketball star, a 6-foot-9-inch basketball super star, was tied up with duct tape by masked intruders and robbed of jewelry, cash and his black Mercedes-Benz. The source told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday that two intruders wearing masks and covering their eyes entered through the garage at Walker's home Monday evening. One held a weapon, likely a small handgun, to Walker's head. The intruders ordered Walker into his house, where they wrapped duct tape around his ankles and wrists. Walker was able to extricate himself from the duct tape after the robbery.
It’s sad to see a neighborhood like that have a robbery occur. Walker is surrounded by many other wealthy neighbors like actor Vince Vaughn; former Bears Pro Bowl defensive back Jerry Azumah; and Juanita Jordan, ex-wife of former Bulls star Michael Jordan. Those neighborhoods have way more than enough security so how could criminals come into someone’s home and rob them at gunpoint? Those type neighborhoods include, high-tech security equipment -— including cameras, motion detectors and alarms, and additionally have protection from regular Chicago police patrols. Several homeowners in the area employ private security guards to sit behind their brick edifices and monitor suspicious onlookers.
Yet Walker, who resides in the 400 block of W. Huron, fell victim to a terrifying gunpoint robbery in his own home. Chicago police recovered the Mercedes, without the wheels attached to the car on Tuesday, but declined to confirm other details of the investigation. Some say that Walker might have even known his attackers. According to the source, Walker is packing his belongings from his residence on Huron after Monday's frightening experience.
Well, you can’t quite blame the NBA Star for packing his bags and leaving. There’s no way to live if you can’t live safe. Many neighbors who know Walker including Jason Walsh, 38 stated, “He is a nice guy and approachable and he supports Chicago, even though he plays on a different team. I think that's great. He is very friendly and says, 'Hi, how are you doing?' He has a couple of charities, I think, that he supports. You can't beat that."
