Sharpton Disapproves of Imus Return

Radio Jock Don Imus was taken off the air by CBS Radio, months ago. Imus caused a public outcry after he made horrible statements on the air about the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team. The public begin to speak about the comments, demanding he be fired and dismissed. Al Sharpton who was the main speaker for the public played a big part in getting Imus taken off CBS Radio.

Rumors began to speculate that Imus wanted to return to radio and many started to oppose the idea, including Al Sharpton. However, in an interview on Wednesday, Sharpton admitted that he would not oppose a return to radio by Don Imus. "He has a right to make a living," Sharpton said to The Associated Press. But while Al Sharpton didn't think Imus should be banned from radio, he hasn't lightened his mind on the radio jock. Sharpton said he still believes Imus' dismissal for calling the Rutgers team "nappy-headed hos" was the correct move. Sharpton referred to Don Imus as a "repeat offender" who deserved a harsh punishment. "We had never asked him to never work again," Sharpton stated.

A friend of Imus has hinted on an Albany radio program that Don Imus may be ready to return to broadcasting as early as September.

Although there has been no official comment made about a possible Don Imus return, it doesn't seem likely that the radio jock would be returning to CBS-owned WFAN. In an interview with the New Yorker, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves was asked if there was any chance at all that Imus could be brought back. "No," Moonves said.

Not only did Imus lose his radio shows, but he also has contract problems. Imus has demanded that he be paid his full salary. CBS feels that since Imus went too far with his "nappy-headed hos" comment, they were no longer obligated to pay him.
