The Griffins might be the next cartoon family to hit the big screen

It is a good season for cartoon characters everywhere. Following the highly anticipated release of "The Simpsons" movie coming this week, rumors have started to surface about another family hitting the big screen.

As the creator and voice behind three of the "Family Guy" characters, Seth Mcfarlane has told to the Hollywood Reporter that producers have been discussing the possibility of making a movie about the Griffin family, yet there is still much to be settled before the idea becomes a reality.

"We have been trying to figure out how to do that and the series at the same time without the series suffering," said Mcfarlane. He also added that Fox is still trying to wait and see exactly how much "The Simpsons" earn back after it premieres this weekend to green-light the project, which should take a few more years to be completed.

While the actor and writer did not mention a specific story line, he did say what he did not want the movie to be like. "I don't want to do The Griffin must save the world," he confessed.

If the project does go under production, it will be "Family Guy's" first big screen appearance. Another feature film about the clan "Family Guy Presents: Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story" was released in 2005 exclusively in DVD. It was successful, as is the weekly show that has aired Sunday nights since 2004.
