64th Annual Venice Fim Festival Kicks Off
One of the most well known film festivals ha just begun once more. The Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday August 29th, and is scheduled to run through September 8th, according to the People's Daily Online. The festival started in 1932, although it has not run continuously every year since, for a number of reasons, including wartime. Twenty-two films will be shown, including a majority submitted by American and British directors. A number of other nations have submitted entries, including France, Spain and Egypt. Filmmakers expected include both big names such as Brian de Palma and lesser known media darlings such as Vincenzo Marra, Andrea Porporati and Paolo Franchi, according to the article. According to the People's Daily Online, a new award will be given to the "most secular film," called the Brian Prize. PDO reports the expected attendance of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and George Clooney.
