North Korea May Be Removed from Terror List
According to recent news reports, the U.S. government may indeed be moving North Korea off a list of dangerous terrorism-sponsoring countries. In a report in The Hindu, a prominent Indian newspaper, "...the Foreign Ministry in Pyongyang said on Monday that Washington had, at the same meeting, agreed to remove North Korea from the U.S. list of states sponsoring terrorism." No U.S. government official has confirmed this story, as of late. Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Christopher Hill stressed the importance of North Korea successfully dismantling its nuclear program before any definitive actions could be taken to officially remove North Korea from the list. Under increasing pressure, North Korea agreed to participate in six-party talks, designed with the goal of stopping and dismantling the country's nuclear program and making its contents open and visible to the U.S. and other nations.
