Craig Reverses Decision

Idaho Senator Larry Craig will try to stay in the U.S. Senate.

Senator Larry Craig has had a change of mind. The Idaho senator has decided to stay past his former September 30th deadline. In an article in the New York Times, it was said that the Republican decided that he will stay in the Senate unless forced out by a judge. Senator Craig got into hot water when he solicited an undercover police officer in a men's bathroom. Craig initially admitted as such, and since then, has repeatedly changed his pleas and his facts of what really happened. Craig also announced at a recent press conference that he was not gay, and sought to step down from his office soon enough, if his name was not cleared soon. In the article, Craig was quoted as saying "Today was a major step in the legal effort to clear my name...The court has not issued a ruling on my motion to withdraw my guilty plea. For now, I will continue my work in the United States Senate for Idaho."

According to the NYT article, Craig has continued to attend Senate meetings, even after being "...stripped of his leadership post on three panels." Many fellow Senate members were surprised when Craig returned to work last week, after a two-week period of absence surrounding the Craig controversy. A number of Republicans had hoped that Craig would stay true to his word, and step down, leaving his post open for a fellow Republican. Craig is currently waiting for a judge to okay his motion to overturn his initial guilty plea.
