Albuquerque's Mayor to Run for Senate
With so many Republicans jumping ship after the next senate election the control of the senate is up for grabs. Democrats control the 100-member body with 49 seats and two independents, who usually vote democrat. According to the Associate Press, the mayor of Albuquerque will be running for a seat in the senate that will be vacated by U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici after his term is over. Martin Chavez, a democrat, is in his third term as mayor and has been hoping to get another bid for governor in 2010. In 1998 he was the Democratic candidate, but lost to Republican Gary Johnson.
