Students Abused at Oprah's School - She Takes Action
MSNBC reported today (Monday) that Oprah spoke to parents of students at her all-girls school in South Africa with tears welling in her eyes as she pled for forgiveness. She called for an emergency meeting after abuse allegations arose at the school, which opened early this year. A female student was allegedly fondled by an unidentified employee of the school in Henley-on-Klip. Other student had also been physically abused.
According the South African new site News24.com, Oprah said, "I've disappointed you. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." Oprah has publicly shared her own abuse-filled childhood, and wanted the students to be able to contact her directly. She gave her personal e-mail, mailing address, and phone number.
Oprah has also placed the school's principal, Dr. Mzimane, and at least one other employee on leave. She says she has been disappointed, reports MSNBC.
