Google Goes Wireless
Google announced that they will enter the cell phone industry.
Despite months of rumors of a "Google Phone," Google has decided to enter the cell phone industry without actually introducing a phone. The company is spearheading the Open Handset Alliance which, along with over 34 manufacturers and phone companies, will provide free operating software that will improve internet capabilities and web access to cell phones. This new software is called Android and is supposed to surpass the abilities of the smart phone. Google is hoping that Android will help phone prices drop and that more people will use their cell phones to access the internet. The software will not be available on phones until the middle of 2008.
