Last minute policy reversal bumps Britney to #2 on charts
Britney Spears was set to have a fifth number one selling album this week with her comeback CD "Blackout," only to be bumped by the Eagles.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Spears would take the top spot due to the Eagles' double-CD "Long Road Out of Eden" only being available through a single vendor, which excludes it from being on the charts.
However, according to the Los Angeles Times, Billboard announced Monday that it would change its policy, allowing the Eagles to claim the top spot with 711,000 copies sold compared to Spears' 290,000 copies of "Blackout."
This is the first time Spears has not had a number one album. According to MTV.com, Spears' first album "...Baby One More Time" sold 120,600 copies the first week, putting her at number one. "Oops!...I Did It Again" gave Spears her second number one, as the disc sold 1.3 million in the first week. Her third album, "Britney," was less successful with only 745,700 copies sold, but Spears still claimed number one. "In The Zone" did slightly worse with 609,400, but again Spears came out on top.
