Aqua Dots Recalled
Aqua Dots, a popular toy manufactured in China, has been recalled for containing the "date rape" drug.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission immediately recalled the toy because the coating of the beads contain a toxic chemical that can result in almost fatal disasters if ingested. The chemical is gamma hydroxy butyrate, which is -- said by scientists -- the date rape drug. According to the CPSC, two children from the United States have ingested the beads and became ill. The first child was a 20-month old and swallowed several beads; he got dizzy, vomited several times and fell into a coma, the CPSC said. After hospitalization, he recovered altogether. The second child had the same symptoms as the first and was hospitalized for five days, the CPSC said. Three children in Australia also fell ill after ingesting the beads and were hospitalized.
Aqua Dots is an artistic kit recommended for children over the age of four. It includes tiny beads that get adhesive when wet. Children put the dots together in their own creations and spray the dots with the included water spritz bottle. The kit also comes with a drying fan.
This highly popular toy is just the latest addition to the list of recalled Chinese-manufactured toys in the past year. Earlier this year, toys were recalled for high quantities of lead.
