Donda West died following 'cosmetic procedure'

Donda West, mother of hip-hop superstar Kanye West, died following a 'cosmetic procedure' over the weekend in Los Angeles. The news comes via West's publicist, Patricia Green, who spread the word to CNN.

Green did not give more details about the cause of death or the procedure West was having done.

Her son had reportedly just landed in London when he heard the news of her death and is said to have since come back.

West was a former chair of English at Chicago State University before she retired to manage her son and his educational foundation, the Kanye West Foundation. She also co-authored "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar," in May.

Donda West was also the inspiration for son Kanye's song "Hey Mama."
