The Broadway strike heads for negotiations.
Finally some good news regarding a strike. The stage hand strike which has closed down all, but eight, shows on Broadway is looking up. “Talks have been scheduled between Local One and The League of American Theaters and Producers beginning this weekend, at an undisclosed place and time,“ the two sides said in a joint statement, according to The New York Times. “No interviews or comment from either organization will be issued until further notice.” So, while there is no indication that the “talks” will do any good, but we can hope. Twenty-seven Broadway shows have been shut down due to the strike, including “Wicked,” “Jersey Boys” and “The Lion King.” The eight shows that remain open are “Cymbeline,” “Mary Poppins,” “Mauritius,” “Pygmalion,” “The Ritz,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Xanadu” and “Young Frankenstein.” The strike has hurt, not only the theater industry, but the bars, restaurants, hotels, souvenir stores located in the theater district.
