Donda West's Doctor Discusses His Patient's Death
Dr. Jan Adams has stepped forward to discuss the death of his patient, Donda West, mother of hip-hop superstar Kanye West. West died earlier this month one day after a routine plastic surgery procedure. Following her death, the dark past of the doctor was revealed - his history was filled with lies, malpractice suits, and alcohol abuse.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Adams said that West probably suffered a heart attack, pulmonary embolism or accidental overdose of prescribed pain medications. He claimed that nothing went wrong during the surgery, which included a breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction.
Adams, who said West was fine when she left his office, claimed that there was a "small list of possibilities" that could have resulted in the death of his patient. While he would not comment on why he thought she may have suffered a heart attack, another surgeon said last week that West had approached him to perform cosmetic surgery months ago. This second doctor refused to operate on West because of an undisclosed preexisting condition that could have resulted in heart attack.
Adams speculates that West took too many painkillers. But the LA County's coroner's office did not mention drugs playing a role in her death, after a preliminary autopsy report last week.
The preliminary autopsy found that West died "as a result of surgery or anesthesia," and has opened an investigation. Adams has claimed to know why West died, but refused to discuss the case any further until the investigation is completed.
