Dennis Quaid's Twins Recover After Huge Hospital Mistake

Two-Week Old Twins Given Accidental Drug Overdose

Dennis Quaid's two-week old twins were recovering Wednesday from an accidental overdose of a blood thinning drug, according to a report by Reuters. The twins were being treated at the top Los Angeles hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Cedars-Sinai has apologized for the "preventable error," which allowed the twins and another child to be given 10,000 units of the anti-coagulant Heparin, instead of the normal 10 units for babies.

Thomas Boone and Zoe Quaid were born via a surrogate mother on Novermber 8. A publicist for parents Dennis and Kimberley said the couple "appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers, and hope they can maintain their privacy during this difficult time."

Cedars-Sinai's chief medical officer, Dr. Michael Langberg, said that the patients were recovering without any negative affects. He also said, "This was a preventable error, involving a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures, and there is no excuse for that to occur at Cedars-Sinai. Although it appears at this point that there was no harm to any patient, we take this situation very seriously."
