You never know what to believe on April Fool's Day. Two pretty big announcements were made yesterday concerning Ashton Kutcher's Hit MTV show "Punk'd" and Howard Stern's rude and crude radio show. Let's separate fact from fiction.
It's no joke; celebrities better watch their backs as Ashton Kutcher brings back his hit MTV show, "Punk'd." Four months ago when Kutcher swore the show was over, fans were shocked, after all, who doesn't love watching Kutcher catch unsuspecting celebrities in vulnerable moments? Even more intriguing is why MTV would let go of one of their most watched shows among 12- to 34-year-olds in 2003.
Before Kutcher announced the plug was being pulled on the show, a new season had been scheduled for March. AP speculated Kutcher's December announcement was just a way to stop stars from speculating if they were next on Kutcher's list. But yesterday, MTV announced the new season of "Punk'd" will begin on April 25. No word yet on who Kutcher will catch this time, but MTV promised it will be "Hollywood's best and brightest."
And now to the joke that had Kelly Rippa saying she was devastated. Howard Stern's show has finally succumbed to the FCC and will be taken off the air. Well, that's what he told his audiences on Thursday morning.
New York's WXRK Radio's general manager Tom Chiusano read a statement saying the show was taken off the air.
"Viacom can no longer bear the weight of the government pressure and its affects on our corporation," he said, adding, "While we're sorry to end the 'Howard Stern Show,' we promise quality programming in the future."
For the first hour of Stern's show, the usually controversial chatter was replaced by bubbly DJ's and Top 40 tunes. DJ's "Cross and Lopez" took over the show with their "fun without filth" program. At around 7:20 a.m. Stern returned to the mike to tell audiences, "We are back for anybody who was stupid enough to fall for that," Stern said.Maybe Kutcher should take a few notes from Stern.
