Broadway stagehands to go back to work
The show must and will go on. Theater owners, producers and stagehands ended their 19 day strike by reaching an agreement late Wednesday night. According to the L.A. Times, the League of American Theaters and Producers and members of Local 1 settled their differences after a 12 hour marathon session.
Local 1 president James Claffey walked out of the final bargaining session with one finger raised, a sign of victory for those represented by the union, and the stagehands that were gathered outside burst into cheers.
“Brothers and sisters of Local 1, you represent yourselves, and your families and your union proud, that’s enough said right there,” Claffey said. Terms of the agreement were not immediately disclosed.
Twenty-six shows were shut down by the strike and millions of dollars lost, especially during Thanksgiving week, known to be the second largest money making week of the year.
Hopefully, the strike in Hollywood can find a similar solution. I’m not sure how long I can last without “Heroes.”
