Hollywood Studios Issue New Proposal to Striking Writers
29-Nov-2007

Studios Trying to Put the Strike Behind

Late Thursday, in an effort to end the four-week walkout, Hollywood studio executives issued a new proposal to striking writers, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

A source told the newspaper that the proposal outlined new compensation terms for members of the Writers Guild of America on a variety of new media outlets, including the Internet. The source claimed that studios are offering writers $130 million in new compensation.

The Writers Guild asked for the weekend to review the new proposal, and talks will resume next Tuesday.

The strike that began on Nov. 5th, over payment and content pertaining to the Internet, includes almost 12,000 writers in both Los Angeles and New York. Over the last few weeks, writers have picketed studios and networks, and many shows have been forced into reruns.

Talks resumed the Monday following Thanksgiving, but no progress was made until today, according to sources close to the situation.
