Johnny Depp Promises to Bring New View to Sweeney
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street as an Oscar winner? This may in fact be a reality, come next year. A new article in efluxmedia hails the upcoming Tim Burton film as able to generate enough good pre-viewing buzz to honor such possibilities. According to Reuters, Depp confessed at a London press conference to having never sung previously: "I never sang before in my life, so I had to kind of find my way to it. I didn't know if I would be able to hit a note, to be honest." After practice and the apparent blessing of producer Richard Zanuck, Depp found his way and in the process, has attempted to forge an entirely new presentation of Todd. Depp has created entirely wacky, odd and lovable outsiders over his career, including the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies. Depp will hopefully add the same charm to his newest role, something apparently he has set a goal for: "I just thought it might be a great opportunity to try to find a new Sweeney, a different Sweeney, in a good way a slightly more contemporary, almost like a punk rock Sweeney."
