Yankees pitcher admits to using HGH

Andy Pettitte comes clean

Say it ain't so, Andy.

After being named in the Mitchell report as one of 85 players who has used steroids and performance enhancing drugs, pitcher Andy Pettitte has come clean, admitting to using HGH in 2002. The Associated Press reports that the Yankees pitcher used human growth hormone to recover from an elbow injury in 2002.

"If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize," he said in a statement that he released through his agent. "I accept responsibility for those two days."

Brian McNamee, the trainer that he shared with fellow Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, helped him with HGH while on the DL early in the 2002 season, the report claimed. McNamee injected Pettitte two to four times, the report said.

The Yankees stood behind Pettitte in his admission.

Teammate Roger Clemens was accused of using HGH and steroids in the report. He has denied those accusations.
